Agriculture Success Story of women farmer Pinki Devi
Today we are talking about Pinki Devi, resident of Satpal village in Silli block, about 63 km from Ranchi district headquarters. Also about women farmers of Jharkhand. Those who are doing good farming in small pieces of land without adding chemical fertilizer. Pinki Devi first trained the Livelihood Krishak Mitra (Livelihood farming friend, who explains the qualities of farming.) And is now producing well by making fertilizers and pesticides at home. During the interview Pinki Devi states that we do not buy fertilizers and medicines from the market. It is made at home and put into the crop. This increases the fertile power of our farm and gives us organic food.
Agriculture Success Story: Pinki Devi makes organic manure like this
On the other hand, Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society imparts low cost farming training to women farmers associated with Sakhi Mandal. Among these, women who have the skills to teach other women farmers. They are trained and made into Livelihood farming friends. These livelihood Krishak Mitras teach the women of Sakhi Mandal in their village how to make the farm more fertile and how to make more profit. Pinky further states that we tell women that they take 20 kg of cow dung, two hundred and fifty grams of gram flour, 250 grams of jaggery and mix them together and make organic fertilizer. To get rid of water scarcity, we have installed drip irrigation. It gets irrigation in less water.
Women are learning modern methods of farming
Please tell that when women here were not connected with Sakhi Mandal, they used to cultivate paddy only in the rainy season. Even if they used to plant vegetables, they used to irrigate them by bringing water from far away pond which used to be very difficult for them, but now after joining Sakhi Mandal, these women farmers are not only learning the modern methods of farming. Rather, they are also taking good yield from low land. Now they take two to three vegetable crops in a year, due to drip irrigation. They earn income every day from vegetables, which is strengthening their livelihood.
