On social media, people fiercely vented their anger. Even a large number of women descended on the streets to protest. The anger was seen in the manner in India after the Nirbhaya case, the same anger was seen in Pakistan. In Pakistan, women also raised slogans of ‘Azadi-Azadi’.
Dragged in front of children by pulling from car
Late in the night of 9 September 2020, a French woman was going towards Gujranwala. His children were also in the car. But the petrol of the car ran out near Gujjarpura in Lahore. It was past midnight. The woman called her acquaintance for help. But before he arrived, two people arrived there. He broke the glass of the car and dragged the woman and children to the nearby forests. The woman was gang-raped in front of the children there.

The culprits did not stop here. After the gang rape, he also took away one lakh rupees in cash and jewelery from the woman. The woman had three ATM cards, criminals snatched them as well. Later, the police started an investigation and detained 12 people from a nearby village.
The disputed statement, which provoked anger
In Lahore Police, CCPO Omar Sheikh blamed the inverted woman for the incident. Omar Sheikh said, ‘This woman left the security ring at 12.30 pm and left her home alone with her three children. At first, I am surprised by this decision itself. How can a mother of three decide to go without a driver? After this, you should have taken GT Road, where there is congestion. But you have chosen another way. This statement went awry to the people of Pakistan.
Demonstrations started across the country
In order to make this irresponsible statement and to punish the culprits, a large number of people started taking to the streets all over Pakistan. Thousands of crowds took to the streets with posters in their hands in big cities like Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Multan and Hyderabad. The then Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed also expressed concern over the Lahore motorway gangrape. He said that the government needs to wake up. On September 15, the main accused of gangrape was arrested.
Minister’s statement poured fuel into the fire
The matter did not stop here. The minister of Imran’s government put ghee in the fire by making absurd statements. Murad Saeed, who was the communications minister, even went as far as to say that no gangrape had taken place. He said in the National Assembly, ‘I want to tell you again that no such accident happened on the motorway.’
Law to make rapist impotent
The Imran government passed the law after protests across the country. According to this, a law was made to castrate the culprits of the impotent. Meanwhile, the court reprimanded the Lahore police officer and asked him to apologize. On 28 September, he had to apologize.
Sentence-a-death for the first time in history
Last week on Saturday 20 March, the Lahore court gave a historic verdict in the case. The Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced Abid Malhi and Shafqat Ali to death by the conviction of gang rape. This is the first time in the history of Pakistan, when someone has been sentenced to death in a gang rape case.
