The report states that steps have been taken to deal with harassment on WhatsApp’s platform. Based on user reports, WhatsApp has taken action against 18 accounts. WhatsApp received around 500 complaints in October. Of these, 146 were account support, 248 ban appeals, 53 product support, 11 safety and the rest about other types of support. However, only 18 of these reports were acted upon and all of them pertained to the appeal to impose the ban.
WhatsApp’s actions include banning an account or restoring previously banned accounts on a user complaint. To send a complaint to WhatsApp, users can email [email protected] or send a letter to the Grievance Officer of WhatsApp in the country by post.
WhatsApp also has its own tools to prevent harassment through messaging. Harassment was the reason for most of the 20.69 lakh accounts that were banned in October. WhatsApp banned 22.09 lakh accounts in September. In September, it had received 309 ban appeals from users. Of these, action was taken on about 50.
New services are also being started by WhatsApp for the users. The main among them is payment service. However, WhatsApp has just got permission to offer payment service to a limited number of users. WhatsApp on Thursday also announced a partnership with cab services provider Uber. Under this, users will be able to book cabs on WhatsApp and they will not need to download Uber’s app for this.<!–
