SpiceJet said on Wednesday that it would operate two seaplane flights daily from Saturday between Sabarmati River Front in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and the Statue of Unity in Kevadia. The airline said in a press release, “Under the Udaan scheme, one-way fares will start from Rs 1500 and tickets will be available from Spice Shuttle’s website from 30 October 2020 onwards.”
India’s first sea-plane service is scheduled to begin on October 31 between the Sabarmati Riverfront to the Statue of Unity. It is being said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate this service. Seaplane aircraft will be operated by Spice Shuttle, a subsidiary of SpiceJet. The time duration of each flight will be around 30 minutes. SpiceJet has bought a seaplane from the Maldives for this. This seaplane will provide service on the route of about 250 km. The seaplane can carry 12 passengers simultaneously.

The Sabarmati and Sardar Sarovar-Statue of Unity routes are among the 16 seaplane routes identified in the country. According to the government, hydrographic surveys of this route were completed. According to Mandavia, after the launch of this service regular service has been planned on various routes including Guwahati, Andaman Nicobar and Yamuna to Tupper Dam in Uttarakhand.

Under the UDAN scheme, financial assistance is provided to the airlines set by the central, state governments and airport operators to encourage flights from the airports which do not operate. Under the flight, about half of the seats in the aircraft are given on subsidized fares.
