BSNL is preparing to bring 4G service ie Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. This information was given by the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Sanjay Dhotre in the House. He said that BSNL can start 4G service in the next 18 to 24 months. Apart from this, he also said that the government is also not in favour of the privatization of BSNL. He has given all this information in writing.
The government had prepared a plan for the revival of BSNL in 2019. There is also a plan to purchase the spectrum for 4G in this plan. Dhotre also told the House that there is currently no law on internet shutdown in the entire country. However, the Department of Telecommunication decides on an internet shutdown or telecom service shutdown on an urgent basis using the Indian Telegraph Act.
BSNL can remain profitable from 2023-24
Loss-making public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BNSL) is expected to turn profitable from FY 2023-24. This will depend on the implementation of the proposed plans and strategies under the Revival Package. It has been said in a report of the parliamentary committee. However, the public sector unit is profitable at the operational level. According to the report, however, BSNL is in profit in terms of Ebitda. Ebitda refers to income before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization.
BSNL revival package was approved in 2019
The government approved the revival package to bring BSNL and MTNL back on track in October 2019. This includes voluntary retirement, support for 4G spectrum, market (sell or lease) of major and non-core assets, government guarantees for bonds to raise capital by PSUs and short-term merger of MTNL and BSNL .
