There is news of relief for auto companies in September on car sales. Wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in the country rose 26.45 percent to 2,72,027 units this September. A year ago i.e. in September 2019, companies had sold 2,15,124 vehicles retail vehicles. Siam, an organization of automobile manufacturing companies, gave this information on Friday. However, sales of commercial vehicles declined last month.
According to the latest figures from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), two-wheeler sales during this period rose by 11.64 per cent to 18,49,546 as compared to 16,56,658 units a year ago. During this period 12,24,117 motorcycles were sold, which is 17.3 percent higher than the year ago 10,43,621. At the same time, sales of scooters increased marginally to 5,56,205 as against 5,55,754 units in September last year.

Passenger vehicles: Sales up 17% in September quarter
Sales of passenger vehicles in the July-September 2020 quarter increased by 17.02 per cent to 7,26,232 units from the same period of the previous financial year. A year ago it stood at 6,20,620 units. Sales of two-wheelers during the September quarter stood at 46,90,565 units in this financial year, as against 46,82,571 units in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Commercial vehicle sales decreased
According to SIAM data, commercial vehicle sales fell by 20.13 percent during this period. A year ago, 1,67,173 commercial vehicles were sold in the September quarter, which came down to 1,33,524 units. Total sales of all categories of vehicles fell marginally to 55,96,223 in the second quarter. A year ago, 56,51,459 vehicles were sold in all categories.
